AUSTIN (KXAN) -- After a nearly two-week long trial, the Texas Senate on Saturday acquitted Attorney General Ken Paxton on all 16 articles of impeachment he faced. Paxton originally faced 20 articles of impeachment, but Senators only weighed 16 of the 20 articles of impeachment approved by the House in late May. Here’s how each Texas senator voted in the impeachment trial of Ken Paxton A two-thirds majority — 21 senators — was needed to convict Paxton on each count. If he had been convicted on at least one of the counts, the suspended attorney general would have been immediately removed from office.Various political figures have released statements or taken to social media to commend the Senate and Paxton or voice their disapproval of the outcome of the trial. Governor Greg Abbott on Saturday issued a statement following the Texas Senate's verdict in the trial:The jury has spoken. How to repair cracked driveways after Central Texas rainstorms

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:42:18 GMT

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Last week's rainstorms across Central Texas were a welcomed reprieve as the region continues to battle "exceptional" drought conditions. While many greeted the rain with open arms, there is one drawback to it: cracks in your driveways.Texas-based business Pavement Services said cracks are some of the main causes behind asphalt failure. Water can sink into cracks beneath the asphalt, which can contribute to asphalt failure and structural support issues within the roadway or driveway. Asphalt supplier Jackson Asphalt said water wears down paved surfaces and can wash away any gravel or sand base within the asphalt. As a result, that can cause the top surface layer to "become distorted," which eventually gives way to cracking."New asphalt dries hard but retains some flexibility which is lost over time; one crack is all it takes," Jackson Asphalt said.Company officials said property owners should remove debris from any and all cracks in their driveway and repair them with...

The Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Florida, was riding high as “From Chaos to Order,” an exhibition of ancient Greek art, became its first major traveling show in years, making stops at museums in Florida and South Carolina before preparing to head west.“The idea was to look at the origins of Greek art in a new way,” said Michael Bennett, the former St. Petersburg curator who organized the show of works from the Geometric period, circa 900 to 700 B.C. “We felt it had something new to say about Greek art.”But earlier this year, when the exhibition was scheduled to travel to the Denver Art Museum, the staff there balked because many of the 57 artifacts lacked detailed provenances. None of the antiquities, on loan from businessperson and collector Sol Rabin, were known to have been looted, but some had been purchased from sellers who have been accused of handling stolen antiquities in the past, Denver museum officials noted. The Denver museum had recently had its own scandal, wh...
