12/23/2023: Clouds, then light rain/snow

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 12:31:22 GMT

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:After a chilly start, we do gradually climb to the mid or upper 30's today under mostly cloudy skies.Clouds give way to showers around sunset. While light snow is expected in the mountains, it will likely start as a cold rain in the valleys. While it could briefly flip over to mix or plain old snow, don't expect much accumulation. This will likely wrap up with on and off light rain during the day Sunday as temperatures warm to around 40.Throughout this period, a decent coating of snow is possible in the Catskills, Greens, northern Berkshires, and perhaps even the Rensselaer Plateau. Up to an inch of fresh snow could fall in parts the Adirondacks. Then we're dry with some sun for Christmas Day itself. While it may not be a White Christmas (one inch or more of snow on the ground) it will be pleasantly mild with highs in the mid 40's.Warmer temps stick around for much of the rest of the forecast, with periods of rain start...

Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon is as hot as he’s ever been, but his line needs more help

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 12:31:22 GMT

However we try to slice it up, this recent run of form from Nathan MacKinnon is as statistically dominant as he’s ever been in a Colorado Avalanche uniform.MacKinnon enters Saturday night’s game against the Coyotes in the midst of a career-best 17-game point streak, which is also three back of tying the best mark in franchise history since moving to Denver.Avs coach Jared Bednar sidestepped a question late Thursday night about whether MacKinnon is the best hockey player in the world right now after he had four goals and an assist in a dramatic 6-4 victory against Ottawa. He had a similar response when asked if this was the best MacKinnon has ever played after he had four points in a win a week ago against San Jose.Mikko Rantanen was less hesitant to address the idea.“I think the best, probably,” Mikko Rantanen said when asked where this recent run ranks for MacKinnon. “The way he’s playing and skating and making plays, being hard to play against and def...

Kickin’ It with Kiz: Dear Santa, could you please bring us a new Rockies owner that has a clue?

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 12:31:22 GMT

Dear Santa: Please line up a buyer for the Colorado Rockies who actually loves baseball and doesn’t just use the sport as a business write-off.Ron, baseball nutKiz: While the Los Angeles Dodgers have committed more than a billion dollars to Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, could Rockies owner Dick Monfort sell you a $3 beer to cry in on the party deck prior to opening day of the 2024 season? I don’t know if there’s anyone on the planet who can spend with the Dodgers, who seem to think writing checks is more essential to a World Series contender than throwing strikes. The problem with Monfort isn’t that he’s cheap, but that he doesn’t have a clue on how to build a winning baseball team.I’ll keep it simple. My Christmas sports wish is for Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog to return to game action.Nate, hockey nutKiz: The only thing the Avs need more than a legit second-line center is the leadership of Landeskog on the ice and in the room. ...
