MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — As spring starts to blossom in New England, some Vermont communities come to life with the sites and sounds of written verse.“These are the honey makersThe maple sap tappers The pollen gatherers The elixirs healing the futurefrom the spirits of the past,” a woman recited from a poem written by Buffy Aakaash, of Marshfield, Vermont, on Saturday during a poetry parade in Montpelier. Each April, the country’s smallest capital city goes all out to celebrate poetry. Storefronts and restaurant windows in Montpelier are graced with poems written by Vermonters of all ages, poets read their works aloud at events — some with musical accompaniments — and poetry workshops meet to discuss the artform. And this year the Montpelier library hosted a first: a poetry parade.“We do National Poetry Month better than anybody as far as we can see,” said PoemCity organizer Michelle Singer, the adult programs coordinator for the Kellogg Hubbard Library in the city of abou...

AYODHYA, India (AP) — Syed Mohammad Munir Abidi says India is a changed country, one he doesn’t recognize anymore. It’s a country, the 68-year-old says, where Muslims are ignored, where rising attacks against them are encouraged, and where an emboldened Hindu majoritarian government is seizing its chance to put the minority community in its place.Swami Ram Das thinks otherwise, echoing a belief system central to Hindu nationalism. The 48-year-old Hindu priest says India is on a quest to redeem its religious past and that the country is fundamentally a Hindu nation where minorities, especially Muslims, must subscribe to Hindu primacy.Abidi and Das are two ordinary citizens living in one city in a country of more than 1.4 billion people that is on the cusp of becoming the world’s most populated nation. Maybe the Warriors will rally.Perhaps this will catalyze the Dubs to start playing winning basketball again. This might just be a quirky footnote to history. But in all likelihood, a Warriors’ season that started with Draymond Green punching a teammate will end in the coming days because Green decided to unnecessarily stomp on an opponent.Oh, and Green likely stamped himself a ticket out of the Bay with his outburst, too.The NBA announced Tuesday night that it was suspending Green for Game 3 of the Warriors’ first-round playoff series for stepping on Kings center Domantas Sabonis’s chest in Monday’s Game 2.The stomping of Sabonis resulted in Green being ejected for the final seven minutes of that game, which the Warriors lost to fall behind 2-0 in the series. Now, it will include 48 minutes of the Warriors’ biggest game of the season. The NBA isn’t suspending Green for the action itself. OAKLAND — The 2023 Oakland Athletics stand alone.A 4-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night at the Coliseum before a crowd of 5,196 ensured their sixth consecutive series loss to open the season. No other A’s team, be it Philadelphia or Kansas City, ever began a season by losing the first six series. The A’s are 3-15, matching only the 1951 Kansas City A’s for futility through 18 games. They’ve lost six straight, 12 of the last 13, 15 of the last 17 and are 0-5 on the homestand.Rookie right hander Mason Miller can not only put a stop to all that Wednesday afternoon on getaway day, but could also be the first A’s starting pitcher to be credited with a win this season. That’s right. Eighteen games in, no Athletics starter has won a game.Miller was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and will make his debut largely on the strength of his last outing in the minors in which he topped 100 miles per hour 23 times and gave up no hits and no walks with...
